I’d noted my disappointment with the Delta 400 on a Liverpool trip but later in the day I shot a roll of HP5. Same overcast conditions - just some of the light starting to go. and I was much more pleased with the result. I developed the roll in Bellini Euro HC – an equivalent to Kodak HC110 bought online at NTPHOTOWORKS and found a less grainy and contrasty negative than the Delta and one much easier to scan and print in the darkroom.

First there was a walk round the Beatles Quarter

So Liverpool was great (as always), the weather was meh, and Ilford HP5 gave me far better results than Delta 400 though I used different developers. It may have totally been down to me but I’ll stick with HP5 for the go-to black and white film for the long British overcast autumn-winter-spring.
