The pace in Luang Prabang is slow. Despite teeming with tourists doing the inevitable slow boat trip – either arriving from Huay Xai or heading up north, or backpacking around Laos, it never gets overly busy or exciting or noisy and it’s all the best for it.

The main tourist areas consist of a few parallel streets including one along the Mekong, one main road and a few back with a wee mountain called Pousi in the middle of it all.

The traffic in these areas is light, there are bars and cafes, the markets, and some fancy wee shops and kiosks. As well as plenty of temples.

Luang Prabang was a wonderful place to spend a few days – I often never bothered with the camera during markets nights, a bamboo and cookery evening and a full day kayaking in blistering heat. Sometimes it’s good just to enjoy the place. All shots taken on the Lumix GX80 and the Lumix 12-60mm zoom
