I’d seen some references to the Frugal Film Project on various social media sites but only really understood how it all worked by listening to a recent episode of the Classic Camera Revival podcast.
The idea immediately appealed – use one cheap camera (75USD max) to shoot one roll of the same type of cheap film each month for a year. I assembled the following:
An M42 Revueflex (a Chinon body) with it’s kit 50mm lens and two I got back in the 80s – a Hanimex 135mm/2.8 and a Sigma 28mm/2.8. Quite the old school setup. The Revueflex was a recent 20 quid purchase of eBay – chosen in favour of my many Prakticas due to weight. I intend to use Ryanair as much as possible for this project. I do have however a wide range of M42 body and lens options should issues occur. For the film, it’s Kentmere 100 (24 exp roll) as frugal as is humanly possible for decent film.
For the first FFP shoot – I was in Paris. Fortunately. A cheap Ryanair return fare enabled me to see out the old and in with the new in a wee bit of style. The shots were taken on the 1st and 2nd of January.
First a selfie
And that’s the January roll – shot and developed early, and Paris always helps when out and about with a camera. 100ASA film is going to be a bit optimistic in grey overcast weather but I’m lucky to travel a bit, and I’ve got the wee umbrella for the camera.
For February.. well I’m off to Spain for a week which might be an idea, or there’s always grim, grey, wintery Belfast.
