It’s busy enough during the day but the centre of Shanghai around Nanjing Road and The Bund comes alive at night – on both sides of the Huangpu river.

Nanjing Road is largely pedestrianised with lots of shop, hotels and street food.

Down by the river, most of the crowds on the west side are taking pictures of the skyline on the east side. On the east side, most people are taking pictures of the east side. It’s a stunning skyline either way.

Across the river, closeness to the iconic TV tower and the giant Shanghai Tower dominate the imagery.

The middle tower is the tall one. There’s a Father Dougal-esque explanation.

Shanghai despite its size and constant throng of people is actually quite organised. On the Bund in the evening, the police have pedestrian lanes to keep the flow moving and ensuring people are not cutting across each other in masses. Traffic cops are out in force keeping things moving and safe and there’s an endless supply of cafes and restaurants open so nowhere was overly crowed. Even the public toilets were coping well.

Photos were all taken on the Canon 6D using 28-90 and 70-300 zooms set on an a shutter of 125, open aperture and ISO around 800. That full frame sensor does ok in the dark.
